The magazine “Pioneering Tech” of Delft University of Technology depicts what is needed to realize the impact of research and innovations for society and business. At Delft University, researchers, students, startups, field labs and others are pioneering. The magazine is aimed at policy- and decision makers in the governmental business community.
A pioneer is a kind of explorer: adventurous and investigative. The appearance of the magazine matches this character. An important subject in tech world now is developing innovative substitute meat.
The magazine positions the university as an innovation leader and authority in the field of game-changing tech. Unlike other magazines, this magazine is also aimed at business and government: the magazine focuses on research and especially its societal-use value.
Jury statement
In terms of content, this issue is about research into meat substitutes. That is why a butterfly is combined with pieces of meat on the cover. The headline reads: Protein Transition: Unchaining a revolution. A good combination of text and image that arouses curiosity about the inside.
The name Pioneering Tech is programmatic, because it is about pioneering work in research. Accordingly, the inside pages focus on illustrating the current state of research.
Overall, a visual concept was developed that radiates a pioneering spirit and stands out from other university publications. Images, graphic language and typography combine in a substantial, visual way. The design does justice to the pioneering character, but remains corporate enough for tech topics and the target group outside the university.
