Results of the 13th ICMA Award

Number of submissions
With 383 entries this year, there was a slight decrease compared to last year. The custom media and graphic design sectors are recovering from the Corona shock.

Entries came from these countries
Entries from 23 countries show that the ICMA Award is very well established internationally.
Entrants came from these countries: Australia, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Canada, USA, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, France, UK, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Poland, Ukraine, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Austria and Germany.
The corporate media sector is still very much dominated by submissions from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg.

Awards for large and small custom media agencies
Traditionally, large and small agencies participate in the ICMA Awards. This year, awards went to these companies, among others: 3st kommunikation, Attacke Werbeagentur, Axel Springer Corporate Solutions, COPE Content Performance Group – Austria, CS Caritas Socialis – Austria, Coop Genossenschaft – Switzerland, EnBW, Gastdesign, Georg Fischer AG – Switzerland, Jincom Limited – Ireland, Kirchhoff Consult, Kreativmaleins, Lekkerwerken, METRO AG, Monterosa-Verlag, Peperoni Werbe- und PR-Agentur, Polarwerk, Red Bull Media House – Austria, Schleiner + Partner, SeitenPlan, Semperoper Dresden, Studio Piraat – Netherlands, Technische Hochschule OWL, Territory, Viglandfriends, ZEW – Leibniz-Zentrum, binsfeld- Luxemburg, formdusche designstudio, mann + maus KG, movea marketing – Austria, tp werbeagentur.

Awards in main categories predominate
As in the previous year, the jury mainly gave awards in the main categories such as Custom Media B2B, Custom Media B2C, Annual Reports, Image Brochures etc.. The sub-categories such as cover and cover story, visual storytelling, alternative storytelling, on the other hand, were given less consideration. The jury evaluated more the complete product and less special individual performances.

New categories: Corporate Film/Video and Animated Film
In the new category for corporate films and videos, Georg Fischer AG, Switzerland, received a gold award. Title: Going Forward. This category was introduced because there is a trend towards moving images in corporate media, not least due to social media. In animated films, one award went to Studio Piraat, Netherlands, and one to the mann + maus KG agency for an animated film about ROSSMANN logistics. The path from the producer to the end consumer is presented in a lively way for employees. There are links to all the award-winning projects in this category under the respective projects.

New category: Campaigns for events, employer branding, etc.
This category was also newly introduced. The aim here is to evaluate concept and design in print, online, social media and moving images. Georg Fischer AG and METRO also scored in this category with a campaign for the “Gourmet Festival powered by METRO”.

Category Concept: different innovative concepts
Gold in this category went to Territory for “HackAttack – the information security game”. As the name suggests, participants are taught about information security in a playful way. Instead of dry regulations, there is information transfer in a playful way.

Consistently high quality of work
There has been no decline in the quality of the submitted works. Design, typography and photography remain at the same high level as before the crisis. In comparison with the BoD – Best of Decade – examples, one can see the great continuity. The examples from the first decade can be found further down on this website.

Agencies’ fields of work expanded
This becomes clear in the results of the ICMA Award: the agencies’ fields of work have expanded considerably in recent years, as more and more agencies include social media, web design, films, videos, animated films, multimedia stories etc. in their range of services.

1.1. Customer magazines B2B Print
